Jaden, a 15-year-old rising sophomore at Ola High School in McDonough, GA, has a passion for golf that began at a young age. Her journey in the sport is a testament to dedication, family support, and a love for the game. In this Q&A, we delve into Jaden’s introduction to golf, her experiences, and her aspirations for the future.

How were you introduced to golf?

My grandmother played golf and taught golf summer camps.  I was 4 years old when I started her camps and going to PGA tournaments with her. I also participated in after school golf programs in elementary school.

What do you love most about the sport?

It’s kind of quiet and calming. It’s easy to focus when it’s quiet.  I get excited when I do better than I thought I would or could. I got my first birdie on the high school team.

How does golf challenge you the most?

When you don’t do something that you intend to do, it gets frustrating. So the challenge is to make it up and do better.

What lessons has golf taught you?

You have to be super patient. You can’t rush through it. You have to be honest and demonstrate good sportsmanship. It takes practice and persistence. My grandfather has always told me that “perfect practice makes perfect” and this applies to the game of golf.

Tell us about your journey to becoming a member of your school’s golf team:

I practiced with my summer coach,  Mrs. Oneda Castillo.  I tried out for the team and made it. My mother encouraged me to do it. It was not my plan at first. I had great coaches like Coach Maddox that encouraged me and were patient with me.

Tell us about your experience(s) with the Women in Golf Foundation – how has it impacted your journey?

I did the summer camps every summer with my grandmother. It’s taught me a lot about the etiquette of golf. I had a lot of different coaches and instructors that made it fun. I played in a lot of golf tournaments during camp and often would finish first or 2nd place.

What are your goals for the future?

I would like to keep getting better by lowering my scores and hopefully get a golf scholarship to college.

Outside of golf, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?

I also participated in a marching band and enjoyed it. I like playing video games, shopping, and hanging out with my family.
